3-11 黒の夢 (Black Dream) begins playing... and out in the vast ocean, something ripples and crackles with energy... and a large high-tech structure seems to phase out of the ocean and begins hovering above the waves....

Lucca: Gah! Such a strong presence!
It's as if just looking will get us sucked in....

The 黒の夢 (Black Dream), as the structure is called, now appears in all time periods except for B.C.65 million. But there are more pressing concerns to attend to first. Crono, mostly. By now, you've probably noticed how useful he is to have around. No group of three can learn three-person skills unless Crono is one of them, and only two skills in the game that don't involve Crono inflict sky-element damage. In addition to that, he's generally your most powerful fighter, and fast too. Besides, Marle will hate you forever if you don't do something. :-P

But first, a side trip. This is the blue pyramid north of Medina Village that looks just like the one on one of the islands in Zeal. The pendant has been able to dissolve the seal since being energized, but since Magus can speak here, it could be a spoiler to list it earlier. You should, of course, come here as soon as you can break the seal, since the items are more useful the earlier you get them.

Sealed Door plays, and the glow from the pendant splits in four, settling on the corners of the pyramid. There's a reaction, and the pyramid disappears, leaving a raised stone platform where two sealed chests and a Nu. It speaks.

The Nu fades out, leaving two chests. Whichever one the party takes, both disappear in a flash of light, and the party only gets the contents of the chosen chest. The chest on the right contains the Swallow, and the other contains the Protect Helm. The Swallow can only be found here, and the Protect Helm is only available from here and by stealing from a boss at practically the end of the game. Take your pick.

A side trip to see Spekkio before the main purpose of coming here.

Spekkio: Hm? That pointy head
hasn't come by lately.

An imitation Crono steps out (normally it would be a copy of the character actually playing the minigame).

The price if you fail starts at 60,000 G, but drops repeatedly, down to 1,000 G, as the minigame progresses. Of course, it's entirely free if you win....

Gina is upstairs by Crono's bed instead of in her usual spot downstairs. The Crono dopple-doll stands by Crono's desk. At the Bottom of Night begins playing as they talk to Gina.

Gash steps into the hanger. One after another, three strange creatures that resemble stuffed animals appear, then fly off somewhere, with a brief announcement:

Actually, there are a lot of things サイコウ could mean without the kanji given. This one just seems likelier than most.

They press the switch.

The mountain is desolate and covered in snow. There's no music, just fierce winds. One of the strange creatures is near the entrance.

The creature turns into a tree, sheltering the party from the winds that would otherwise blow them off the mountain. Past the entrance, the winds die down, and Silent Light plays. In addition to snow and rocky cliffs, there are, of course, monsters. Further in, there is a cave, and in the cave... is a pint-sized Lavos! It can dish out some serious damage (hint: leave the shell alone), but shouldn't be a real problem. There's another one one the far end of the caves. Past the second mini Lavos is a narrow ledge, and another of the strange creatures.

Of course, the path is narrow and twisty, and there's a fairly strong crosswind, just to make things difficult. On the far side, a chest contains the Yasha, a sword for... Crono? Hmm.... Around the corner is the third creature.

And then, up a hill, another mini Lavos. This one is odd in that the shell remains after it dies, instead of disappearing like the others. Recalling what the creature said, they push it up to the cliff and climb to the top. The air up here is unusually clear for the mountain.

The music stops.

Marle: Please, lend me your power.
All feelings that tremble in the night.
All life that stands against the darkness....

{Marle}: All who fear the night and
stand against the darkness...
Please give us strength!

Lucca: All feelings that tremble in the night.
All life that stands against the darkness....
Lend me now your power!!

{Lucca}: You who fear the night and
fight the coming of darkness...
Give us strength!

Frog: My wish is for your power upon me....
All feelings that tremble in the night.
All life that stands against the darkness.
